9th - Roey Fitzpatrick Horse Portraits

Published on Tuesday, November 30, 2010 in General

After many years working as a book designer and illustrator, Roey Fitzpatrick, currently based in Kilcoy, Queensland, realised she wanted to make pictures for herself and took up oil-painting. She was living in Scottsdale, Arizona USA, at the time and had access to whole streets of art galleries, many of which specialised in Western art and exhibited some of America's top 'cowboy' artists. Roey loved to paint horses, but wanted to try her hand at portraits and soon had commissions combining the two.

Roey has been involved with horses for most of her life and loves just being around them.  Her experiences with horses have inspired many of her paintings including the touchingly poignant, 'Twelve Hands Nearer to Heaven', which Roey painted from memories of the first time she sat on a real pony (right).

Her first commissioned horse portrait, 'Pippa's Pony', was painted in 2003 (below left). Roey enjoys painting horses and people from all discplines, however, be warned, she gets very attached to her paintings and often finds it hard to let them go to their 'forever' homes!

A charming pinto pony and his vivacious young owner were the latest to get the Roey 'treatment' and this beautiful painting is one of Roey's favourites (below right).

If you would love to be immortalised in paint with your horse or know someone who would truly appreciate such a wonderful and personal gift, contact Roey via email at roey@starhillstudio.com.au or call 07 5498 1364. Roey is able to work from photographs so it doesn't matter where you live, Roey would be thrilled to paint you and your horse.
