ABCRA Junior National Finals Wrap Up

Monday, the 21st January, saw the completion of round three of the ABCRA National Finals Junior Rodeo. The round saw some excellent competition with many fast times and high scores being recorded. Many titles were decided on the night, making for a nail biting round, however some were too close to call and had to wait until the end of the night for the final outcome.

After having three clean and consistent rounds, the ABCRA National Finals Champions were decided and at the completion of the third round, end of year champions were announced.

The Barrel Race events were hotly contested with some of the fastest runs we’ve seen at the Junior National Finals yet, making for a very fast paced and exciting three days. In the under 11 Junior Barrel Race, Bendemeer’s Braith Nock was named the National Champion after having a very successful year. Matt Canham from Moonbi had three clean rounds at the National Finals to be named the Aggregate Champion.

In the 11-U14 Junior Barrel Race, Bianca Canham was awarded the National Champion buckle after having an exceptional year of competition with her horse Vegas. Western Australia’s Taya Hill had three fast rounds, winning both the first and second rounds and being third in the last round to secure the Finals Aggregate.

The 14-U18 Juvenile Barrel Race was an event to watch with some very tough competition over the three nights. Tamworth’s Courtney Hallam (pictured) was at her best proving too good for her competition and winning both the National Title and Finals Aggregate after having three fast rounds.

In the Junior Breakaway Roping, both spectators and competitors were left holding their breath as to who would finish the year as the National Champion. After placing two out of three nights, it was Campbell Hodson who had the most points at the end and he became the proud new owner of the National Champion buckle. Tamworth’s Anna Crisp had three fast catches and was the winner of the Aggregate.

Luke Parkinson has had an outstanding year which was topped off by winning the 8-U11 Junior Steer Ride National Title. Christopher Wilson made three good rides to finish with the highest amount of points and was named the Aggregate Champion.

The 11-U14 Junior Steer Ride came down to the wire, however it was Nicholas Penrose who rode his way to becoming the National Champion. Dylan Talbot made three impressive rides to score the highest amount of points over three nights and secure the Aggregate Title.

In the 14-U18 Juvenile Steer Ride, competition was at an all-time high and many rode for the eight seconds, however it was talented Bradie Gray from Tamworth who had his eye on the prize and was there to get the job done, making three outstanding rides and being named both the National Champion and Finals Aggregate Champion.

Mitchell Tidyman was named the Champion of the 14-U18 Invitational Junior Bull Ride after having a successful National Finals and riding all three of his bulls for the required time, leaving him with the highest amount of points over the three rounds.

The All Round Cowboy was awarded to Luke Parkinson and the All Round Cowgirl was won by Courtney Hallam.  Courtney had an outstanding finals in both her events and was then awarded the Finals All Round Cowgirl as well. Braith Nock was named the Finals All Round Cowboy winner.
