Amazing Spring Win at the Pony Club NSW State Mounted Games Championships

Teams Radioactive and the Masters had an amazing Spring win at the Pony Club NSW State Mounted Games Championships on 20-21 September 2014. 

The Championship is an annual event held in a different location in NSW every year, this year’s event was held at Londonderry Pony Club Grounds and hosted by Pony Clubs in Zone 19.

Competitors travelled from Pony Clubs all over NSW for the event, with most riders and their families camping at the grounds for the weekend.

An amazing weekend was had by all in the perfect Spring conditions, with competitors enjoying fierce competition between the twenty six teams which made up 130 competitors.  

Teams battled it out in a series of ten fast races including Balloon Bursting, Hurdle and Sword Race, resulting in a cumulative point score over the weekend.

In the under 17’s age group, Zone 16 team Radioactive from Bungendore Pony Club took at first place with consistent placing’s over the weekend. According to team member Kynan Trotter, “we didn’t win every race but we placed in all of them, it was a great weekend.”  

The Champions in the 17 to under 25 age group was the Zone 16 Masters from the Murrumbateman region with a near perfect score of 98 out of a possible 100 points. “It’s amazing, we were confident we’d do pretty well, we’ve put in a lot of work, but I don’t think we ever thought we’d win,” commented team member Katie Slater.

With the event hailed a great success from competitors, spectators and event organisers alike, Pony Club members are looking forward to the next state event, the Pony Club NSW State ODE Championship to be held at the Albury Wodonga Equestrian Centre, Albury from the 27-28th September 2014.
