Arabians to Race at Caulfield

A 1600m race for Purebred Arabians will be held within the Thoroughbred Meeting conducted by the Melbourne Racing Club on Saturday, 5 February 2011, at Caulfield Racecourse in Victoria.

 

All raceday staff officiating at the Arabian Race will be Thoroughbred  Industry personnel and this includes the stewards who will all be Thoroughbred stewards.  Full Thoroughbred swabbing will be carried out and Two horses will be  swabbed. These horses will be chosen by the stewards. A pre race swab  will be taken on all horses & all horses will have a pre-race vet  inspection. These are normal procedures in Thoroughbred racing. All the Arabian horses will be ridden by Thoroughbred licenced  jockeys. The Arabian race will be sponsored by HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid al Maktoum.

 

The race will be run under the NARA Australian Arabian Rules of Racing  which requires that all the horses be registered Arabians and have racehorse identification issued by NARA. All horses will be required  to have a barrier certificate. Racing Victoria Stewards are organizing a jump out and a trial at Caulfield Racecourse prior to the race. The  trial will be held on the course proper the Tuesday before the race  and the horses will be ridden by the Thoroughbred jockeys.

 

In addition to the Arabian race, the UAE Embassy will be presenting an exhibition of Arab Culture.
