Auction of the Stars a Success!

If results of last Sunday’s Auction of the Stars is anything to go by, a strengthening in the riding horse market is on the cards.

The magnificent Sydney Polo Club was a fitting venue for the quality line-up of horses where traditionally the market at these auctions has been stronger for unbroken stock. This time around, however, saw many a bidding dual for the riding horses - with six lots selling over $20,000 and the highest priced lot fetching $45,000.

The sale topper was Rogue Trader R (pictured left), a four-year-old son of Australian GP Dressage Champion Regardez Moi (out of a Jive Magic mare), he has already successfully competed for scores of over 70%.

 

The enthusiastic crowd applauded the purchase of striking dapple grey, Puffin R (Regardez Moi) as a 21^st birthday present while other horses are destined for homes as far afield as New Zealand.

Two bargains were had from the broodmare section with both in-foal mares selling for just $4,000.

Overall, Heath Ryan was happy with the auction, saying, "the market for the ridden horses was particularly strong, however, the market for unbroken stock has taken a down turn.  We have always endeavored to service just the very top end of the unbroken young horse market and  it is our opinion that this section of the market will gradually become re-invigorated as the Australian public becomes more and more educated and so more discerning."

 

"We were very pleased with the auction and we are also committed to providing an equestrian spectacle, which is enjoyable to the not-so-horsey audience. We feel that we made a good effort in that direction. We are also committed to promoting dialogue and discussion on the cutting edge thoughts of the training of the horse and the rider. For us the auction is actually multi-layered and we had a good response to all facets."
