Published on Friday, September 9, 2011 in General
Australian, Harley Brown, riding Cassiato won the $50,000 Grand Prix of Showpark, presented by The Grand Del Mar in California, USA last Sunday.
This is a World Cup qualifying class and Harley was the only rider of the 21 starters to jump Anthony D'Ambrosio's course without fault.
Several other riders were close, including two with just a single time fault and six with a single rail down, but not close enough to cause a jump-off.
The final competitor of the class was Karl Cook aboard ASB Conquistador (a former Australian horse competed to Grand Prix by Chris Chugg). The crowd were hoping for a a clear jump and hence a jump-off, and ASB Conquistador almost obliged. Clear to the last fence where when he had a rail down to finish with four faults.
"Cassiato is a big and slow type, I've had time faults before. I always go in thinking the time is going to be tight," said Harley of his 18.2hh mount.
