Australian Stockman's Hall of Fame "Pink" Ride in the Southern Highlands
Published on Friday, February 18, 2011 in General
For the first time, the Australian Stockman’s Hall of Fame, in conjunction with the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF), will host the “Pink” Ride in the Southern Highlands, on Saturday 2 April 2011 in Bowral, to help raise money for breast cancer.
Following the success of the “Pink” Ride in the Outback (Longreach, Queensland), the “Pink” Ride the Clare Valley (South Australia) and the “Pink” Ride in North East Victoria (Beechworth) in 2010, organisers anticipate horses and riders from across New South Wales will saddle up and support the “Pink” Ride in the Southern Highlands in April 2011.
The Australian Stockman’s Hall of Fame (ASOHF) CEO Ben Maguire said he is looking forward to the “Pink” Ride in the Southern Highlands, and anticipates a successful day in the saddle.
“This is the first time we have taken our popular “Pink” Ride to New South Wales,” Maguire said. “We anticipate a good crowd in the Southern Highlands as it is a big horse area, with plenty of good spirited people.”
“We have had great success with our “Pink” Rides since 2008, raising more than $120,000 in total. We hope to one-day host this event in every state, increasing the awareness of breast cancer and raising more funds for research.
“Breast cancer affects one in nine women under the age of 85 - it is the most common cancer among women in Australia. The “Pink” ride in the Southern Highlands is a fantastic way to spend a great day on horseback, while raising money for a good cause,” he said.
Sonya Cullen, event manager of the “Pink” ride in Southern Highlands said she is excited to organise this inaugural event in New South Wales.
“The Southern Highlands is a fabulous location to host the “Pink” ride,” Cullen said. “With pristine pastures and an abundance of natural attractions, the ride will cross some spectacular scenery.
“The support and encouragement we have received so far from local businesses, tourism, and horse people in the area has been commendable,” she said.
The 2011 Australian Stockman’s Hall of Fame “Pink” Ride in Southern Highlands is a slow-paced trail ride, which covers a course of approximately 20kms. The trail ride will start at the Bong Bong Race Track in Bowral.Registrations close 24 March – forms can be found on the Stockman’s Hall of Fame website – www.stockmanshalloffame.com.au. The ride will depart at 9.00am and finish at approximately 3.30pm.
A dinner and auction with proceeds donated to the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) will follow the day’s proceedings. Awards will be given for best dressed horse and rider (JNR and SNR) and most funds raised (JNR and SNR).
