On 1 October 2011, the AWHA QLD Branch conducted their colt and mare assessment day, at Pine Lodge Equestrian Park in Thornlands. The colt classifiers were from three different states:
- Diane Wolyncevic (QLD),
- Rosalind Meadmore (ex Moffat) (VIC), and
- Lesley Archer and Silvia Ahamer (NSW).
Three colts/stallions were presented on the day. The classifiers would like to thank the owners and handlers of the stallions as they were well presented, behaved and looked beautiful. Two of the three stallions presented attained the AV pass mark of 70% or over and will become Approved Stallions with the AWHA. Congratulations go to:
- SLH Alexandre: AV 71.73%, owned by Natalie Roach and Christopher Wilkinson (NSW), and
- SilkBridgeAmedeus: AV 71.42%, owned by Sharon and Don Bridgeman (QLD).
Six mare assessments were conducted during the afternoon. Mare assessments are different to colt assessments whereby mares do not have to free jump with the AWHA. All mares presented attained the AV pass mark of 60% or over. It was great to have four classifiers to use for the mare assessments.
Classifiers Lesley Archer and Rosalind Meadmore assessed:
- Harris Park Salienta (WFM), owned by Shanna Antrim.
- Taloumbi Foreign Affair (HSB), owned by Sharon Harvey.
- Wood’s Standing Ovation (MSB), owned by Pip and Anthony Pope.
Classifiers Di Wolyncevic and Silvia Ahamer assessed:
- We All Leica (AUS) (FM), owned by Tracey Rehberg.
- Erewhon Park Little Misstiek (WFM), owned by Abigail Hunt.
- DF Falsetto (HSB subject to DNA return), owned by Tara Tate.
On the Saturday evening, Lesley Archer and Silvia Ahamer classified Aveden Chyna (WFM), who had a new foal at foot, owned by Claudette Johnson.
AWHA QLD Branch Mare Classifier Training
2 October 2011, saw the AWHA QLD Branch conduct mare classifier training to its members at Beau Cheval Equine Care in Kerry. It was great to see members interested in becoming an AWHA classifier, as we require more classifiers for the Queensland region. Seven trainees attended the training day, happy because they could ask any question and obtain an answer from the classifiers. The AWHA QLD Branch hopes to progress more trainee classifiers for future classifications in Queensland.
The afternoon saw four mares of Linda Treur’s assessed by Silvia Ahamer and Rosalind Meadmore. Linda was extremely accommodating, allowing the trainees to watch her mares’ assessments. Lesley Archer provided guidance to the trainee classifiers and answered their multitude of questions. Mares assessed were:
- Vita (Imp) (HSB),
- SPR Joia (WFM),
- SPR Balouska (WFM), and
- SPR Poesta (MSB).
Lesley Archer did a fantastic job conducting the classifier training with minimal assistance from Silvia Ahamer.
The classifiers would like to thank the AWHA QLD Branch committee members who assisted in making these days happen. Also, thank you to all the other people, horse owners and helpers over the three days, as without you we could not run these events. New things are constantly being learnt during these events – a job well done!
Lastly, a very special thank you to Claudette and her husband Garry of Beau Cheval Equine Care for their kind hospitality as well as providing the venue and horses for the classifier training.
