Back-to-Back Lightning Stakes Gives Black Caviar 19
Whatever your horse sport, even those who do not treasure speed, no-one can ignore the iconic status of the amazing and awe inspiring mare that is Black Caviar!
Even non-betters will drop by the TAB and invest a couple of dollars on this fantastic mare, just to have a betting ticket with her name on to show the grandkids!
Needless to say, the World Champion Sprinter took her unbeaten record to 19 when claiming her second Group One VRC Coolmore Lightning Stakes at Flemington today, which marks the start of the lucrative 10-race Global Sprint Challenge.
Coming back from 1400m of the C.F. Orr Stakes last week the superstar mare was pushed by world class sprinter Hay List down the Flemington straight to complete today’s dash in an amazingly slick 55.53 seconds, just 0.03 seconds outside of Special’s track record set in 1988.
In winning today Black Caviar ($210,000 2008 Premier, 5m Bel Esprit-Helsinge) matched the Australasian record of the most consecutive metropolitan wins (19) set over 90 years ago, while taking her career prizemoney to $5.2million.
Connections have plenty of options available moving forward with the hulking sprinter including a possible trip to Dubai for the Group One Golden Shaheen on the way to Royal Ascot and the Golden Jubilee, both legs of the 2012 Golden Sprint Challenge
The great mare’s breeder Gilgai Farm kindly asked fellow Victorian’s Swettenham Stud to offer Black Caviar in their draft at the 2008 Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale, where she was purchased by trainer Peter Moody for $210,000, and Adam Sangter’s operation will offer another stellar group of yearlings at this year’s Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale at Oaklands.
Two close relations to Black Caviar will also go under the hammer at Melbourne Premier :-
Lot 65 – Colt by Bel Esprit from Midnight Sun
Lot 411 – Filly by Charge Forward from Bergman
Hot Snitzel claims Group Two in Sydney
Twenty minutes after Black Caviar’s win the Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale was called into the spotlight in Sydney as $60,000 purchase Hot Snitzel claimed the Group Two ATC Royal Sovereign Stakes.
Hot Snitzel ($60,000 2010 Premier, 3c Snitzel-Flames Of Paris has always produced well fresh and he did not disappoint his followers in fighting off the late challenges of Group One winner Manawanui over the 1200m at Warwick Farm.
