Bauer's Racing Retirement Could be a Lucky Clerk's Gain!

Published on Monday, November 7, 2011 in General
Grey Bauer was pipped by Viewed in the 2008 Melbourne Cup during one of the closest finishes in Cup history.

Even though nine year old Bauer's racing days are over, after running his last race on the weekend, it looks like the handsome grey will still have gainful employment at the track!

abc.net.au has reported that part owner Simon O'Donnell said Bauer would be given an easy time in a paddock before being tried as a clerk of the course horse.

"He'll go home and have a rest, a bit of R and R," O'Donnell said.

"A couple of the clerk of the course guys are very keen to get hold of him but we'll just let him go and have some R and R first and then probably launch it."

"He could be leading in a (Melbourne) Cup winner one day."

We hope to see Bauer leading in winners in his new career and at least we know he'll be fast enough to catch any that get away!
