Build a Cowboy Day

Published on Friday, January 25, 2013 in General

Tuesday the 22nd of January saw the ABCRA run yet again another successful Build A Cowboy Day. The event saw many children return from previous years, along with many new children eager to get involved. With the day not only offering the children the chance to learn about the sport and having the opportunity to get in and have a go at the different events, they were also lucky enough to be taught by some of the Rodeo and Campdraft elite making it no wonder the support of the event continues to grow.

Ty Parkinson, who has been a Junior Breakaway Champion and Champion Team Roping Heeler says ‘it was a great day and I think the kids really learnt a lot from it. I think days like this are really important for up and coming kids wanting to join the sport and I would love to be involved again next year.’

Tracy Swain said her children Jack and Billy had a fantastic day, ‘my boys really loved it, they had lots of fun and really enjoyed being taught by the champions. I’m really impressed by the whole day and it was great to see some of the younger kids there teaching the children as well. A highlight for my boys was having a go on the Steer Wrestling slide machine and the bucking drum. They are very eager to get to a rodeo and have a go at the real deal.’

The event is set to run again next year and many of the children are already looking forward to it. Thank you to the volunteers and instructors for their hard work, without whom the event would not be the huge success it has been.  Also to Tamworth’s Country Capital Meats for supplying lunch for the kids.

Full of non-stop rodeo and campdraft action, the ABCRA National Finals is an event not to be missed so grab your tickets and cowboy hats and come along for a great night out.
