Bungendore Committee Ready for their 2012 Show
Sunday 29 January is shaping up to be another big day at the annual Bungendore Show. President Bob Robertson and his dedicated Show Committee members have yet again pulled together a vibrant and jam-packed schedule of events, competition and activities with something in mind for every member of the Bungendore community and surrounding region.
“Annual agricultural shows are a reflection of the vitality of the local region, and unlike some other rural and regional shows, Bungendore’s is thriving. Of course, this is made possible by the significant support the Show receives from local business people and community groups and I thank each and every one of them for their continuing support, both financially and in effort and donations.”
The Horse and Equestrian program is the second largest horse program in the region in size and competitors, only the Royal Canberra Show is bigger.
Chief Horse Steward, Marion Whalan, is confident that this year’s horse and equestrian program will deliver something for just about every horse enthusiast. “We have 11 rings in operation on show day, covering a double chance hacking program, a wide variety of breeds from miniature ponies, to welsh and riding ponies to Standardbreds, Australian Stock Horses, Arabs and Andalusian, plus dedicated harness , rider and pony club rings.
Featuring for the first time this year are Heavy Horse classes, which include Clydesdale, Shire and Percheron breeds in a dedicated ring and also with classes in the Harness Ring. “I was approached by a number of enthusiasts to include heavy horses at this year’s show during the planning stages and have also received good support from the breed associations in promoting this new inclusion. There is definitely something about the larger breeds that fascinates people about these horses and I am looking forward to a good number of exhibitors and spectators,” Marion said.
The Bungendore Show does really cater for a broad variety of equine interests. In addition to the 11 rings, there is a sporting events program, which has on offer prize money of almost $1200 and is always very popular with some of the youngest riders, right through to their mums and dads. If that isn’t enough, there is also a show jumping program offering junior and senior height classes.
