Burpengary Pony Club Official Showjumping

Published on Saturday, March 12, 2011 in Sponsored Shows

Horsezone were proud to be one of the sponsors of the Burpengary Pony Club Official Showjumping, which was held at Burpengary Equestrian Centre (BEC) on Saturday 5 March.  The BEC suffered heavily during the January floods and has only recently been repaired enough for events to take place, so the Burpengary Pony Club committee and members were excited to be able to hold their Showjumping.  However, for a while there it was looking like rain was once again going to prove detrimental to events held at the BEC, when it bucketed down on the day and hours leading up to the showjumping.

The Club decided that even though the outdoor arena was too wet to ride on, they could still hold classes in the indoor arena.  This was a State Championships qualifier event and the show must go on!  Unfortunately the Unofficial events had to be cancelled, but all official events were still held.

The rather damp and dismal day certainly didn't affect attendees spirits and there were still plenty of smiles as competitors, helpers and horses sloshed around preparing for classes.  A few heavy showers sent people (and horses!) diving for the under cover stands but at least the arena footing remained dry, which guaranteed a good day of showjumping.

The Burpengary Pony Club recently commissioned the building of several new jumps and they looked very professional and colourful in the indoor arena.  The course builders for the day were Ken Jensen and Kerry Henderson and the judge was Natalie Anstey.

There were 56 entries in total (numbers were down due to having to cancel the unofficial classes) and in addition to Burpengary Pony Club members, competitors attended from all over South East Queensland including Maroochy, Redlands, Waterford, Caloundra, Southport, Glasshouse, Darra Oxley, Tallebudgera, Nerang, Warwick, Gatton, Woodford, Dayboro, Bramble Bay, Kilcoy, Gin Gin and Buderim.

There was no shortage of helpers in the arena and it was great to see everyone pitching in to assist with altering the jumps between classes.

Overall, considering the abysmal weather, and the fact the unofficial classes couldn't be held, the day went well for competitors and organisers alike.

Horsezone's notes on the day...

Most Impressive:

  • The positive attitudes displayed by competitors and helpers despite the weather.
  • Colourful and unique new BPC jumps - we loved the Panda, Butterfly, Cowboy and Jester jumps!
  • Perfect flying changes executed during warmup by Timothy Eastwell, Warwick Pony Club, riding Wyndale Billy.
  • Overall high standard of riding shown by competitors.

Most popular with Competitors:

  • the D Grade class.
  • hanging out in the Indoor as much as possible to escape the damp conditions.

Crowd Pleaser:

  • The 10 & Under class.
  • The speed and skill over fences shown by many competitors - we're sure several future stars graced us with their presence.

What's In:

  • Smiling through the rain.
  • having your photo taken with the Horsezone banner and wearing Horsezone stickers!
  • Colourful gumboots.
  • Applauding encouragingly after every round.
  • Everyone helping out during changes to the course.

What's Out:

  • Complaining about the rain
