19 year old Milly Clarke who lives on the South Coast at Berry claimed victory in the ActewAGL Centenary Cup held at Equestrian Park in Canberra today riding her experienced partner the lovely grey thoroughbred Diamond B Jimmy Choo. Clarke was the only rider to complete the two rounds of competition without jumping penalty’s although adding one time penalty in the second round. International Course Designer Brad Longhurst of Yass set a technical but fair track at 1.40m in height.
Clarke was ecstatic about her win in Canberra, having no expectations of a win before the class “I wasn’t sure about starting today; we haven’t started in a Grand Prix class since the beginning of the year. I was definitely not expecting to win” Milly said after her round. She was full of praise for her wonderful partner Diamond B Jimmy Choo declaring “he’s the best”.
The first round saw just two clears, from Clarke and Jennifer Wood of Cudal riding yet another grey, her lovely mare Sweetshot. Five riders finished with just four penalties for dropping a foot in the open water jump. The open water marring otherwise faultless rounds from Canberra local Clint Beresford riding Emmaville Jittabug, Emma Smith of Pitt Town riding Ego Casablanca and Jess Stalling of The Oaks riding Diamond B Vermont. Fourteen year old up and coming star Lane Clarke of Bega, rode a near perfect round just dropping the final fence riding GH Tiger Lilly. Canberra junior Izabella Stone was also unlucky to have just one rail down riding her lovely mare Cosmorex Coffee Latte.
Twelve riders started in the second round in reverse order of penalties for the order to go. Popular local farrier Clint Beresford jumped a fast, classy clear on the scoreboard putting pressure on the final two riders. Clarke took a conservative track to ensure a clear with a single time penalty to add. The gate was open for the final competitor Wood to steal the title, however a rail at the second fence secured Clarke the win, and Wood could not match the blistering time set down by Beresford. The ActewAGL Centenary Cup was a battle of the rising stars with more than half of the starters under the age of 24. The average age of the top 5 placegetters was 19 years. Some extremely stylish riding was on display, demonstrating the current depth of talent rising through the Australian showjumping ranks.
The final results of the ActewAGL Centenary Cup were:
1.Milly Clarke- Diamond B Jimmy Choo (0/1)
2.Clint Beresford -Emmaville Jittabug (4/0)
3.Jen Wood – Sweetshot (0/4)
4.Lane Clarke – GH Tiger Lilly (4/4)
5.Izabella Stone- Cosmorex Coffee Latte (4/4)
The other action in arena one saw Sarah McMillian of Kulnura riding Belcam Armada win the TEKNA National Young Rider series qualifier, Craig Matthews of Bega riding Fifi La Viva was the overall Young Rider Champion. Alisa Williams won the JNSW Amateur Series Qualifier riding Broadway Jittabug as well as the overall Amateur Champion. The “Seniors Cup” an initiative sponsored by 50 Acres Communications Agency for competitors over 40 years old was won by Jeremy Williams riding Wolverine. The junior overall winner was the super talented Lane Clarke riding Burnbrook.
The Centennial Cup was a great event with a community atmosphere. Thanks to all the wonderful sponsors for supporting Canberra Showjumping, the hard working show committee and all of the ACTSJC committee members, the judges, marshals, pole pickers and everyone who lent a hand throughout the event to keep the three rings of competition running smoothly and efficiently. As a Canberra Centenary event, we celebrated 100 years of horsepower and history in the nation’s capital with a fantastic three days of jumping, thank you to the ACT Government and the Centenary of Canberra for their support.
What a great result for Jumping – well done to all especially the Canberra Jump Club for three wonderful days of competition.

Saturday 12 October 2013
Canberra put on another beautiful sunny day to welcome Saturdays jumping competitions at the Centenary Showjumping Cup. Ring 1 saw some fast and furious riding with speed classes in the morning, for the juniors, Young Riders, D grade and D & C grade classes. Lane Clarke has followed in his father’s footsteps, being a formidable junior rider against the clock, winning both the Bink Cement Products D grade and the Emmaville Performance Horses Junior Class. Rhys Stones set down a blistering round aboard the lovely mare Oaks Altador to take out the Cosmorex Coffee D & C grade, beating a tough field of competitors. The ever competitive James Arkins won the Cavalier Performance Horses Young Rider class on the eye catching coloured stallion Bling Du Rouet. The open water featured for the first time at the show in the Horsezone 1.30m AM5 won convincingly by Tallara Barwick of Wilberforce riding the scopey Copabella Verdi from no less than 30 starters. The BSM Sport Equestrian 1.40m AM5 saw just two clear rounds to jump off, Jess Stalling taking the honours riding her impressive and expressive Vivant gelding Diamond B Vermont just piping local rider Jamie Grant and his lovely mare Chintaria. There was plenty of action in Rings 2 and 3 with great jumping all day. See the full results across all rings below.
