Congratulations to Carolyn Lieutenant, who has been recognised on the 2012 Queen's Birthday honours list.
Carolyn has been involved in Dressage coaching and judging for over 40 years, particularly in the field of Para-Equestrian and has been awarded the Medal (OAM) in the general section for service to equestrian sport, particularly through coaching roles with the Australian Paralympic team.
“I’m very humbled to receive this award. I’ve been involved in the sport all my life and I do what I do because I enjoy it, I’m fairly practiced at it now,” said Carolyn.
Among her many coaching roles, Carolyn was the head Coach of the Australian Para-Equestrian team at the Sydney 2000 Paralympic Games where the team won two gold and two bronze medals.
Carolyn pinpoints the Sydney Paralympic Games among the highlights of her coaching career and also fondly remembers Georgia Bruce and Victory’s Salute’s bronze medal winning performances at the 2008 Beijing Paralympic Games.
“I do like pushing the boundaries so it was rather special to see them succeed at this level,” Carolyn added.
Carolyn is currently an EA national ‘A’ level Dressage judge, mentor and coach educator and has also served as an FEI accredited Para-Equestrian judge.
Earlier this year Carolyn’s champion gelding Victory Salute, was inducted into Equestrian Australia’s hall of fame.
