Classic Wine for a Classic Sale as Inglis Partners with Yalumba

Published on Thursday, January 19, 2012 in General

Australia’s leading bloodstock auction house, Inglis, today announced a partnership with Yalumba, Australia’s oldest family-owned winery.

Founded in 1849, Yalumba has a fantastic pedigree and is the ideal partner for Inglis, established just 18 years later in 1867. Both champions in their respective fields, they will now combine to create a formidable partnership allowing Inglis clients to sample the great wine portfolio of Yalumba at the coming sales in NSW and Victoria. In addition, Coopers Beer will be available to Inglis clients at specific events throughout the year.

Yalumba partner with Inglis in the lead up to the Inglis Sydney Classic Yearling Sale Jan 22-24th, the source of recent Group One winners Manawanui, Secret Admirer and Hurtle Myrtle. Few sales in the world can boast Classic’s remarkable record in producing champions on the racecourse, such as Choisir, Silent Witness and Whobegotyou.

Mark Webster, Managing Director of Inglis, stated: “Inglis is thrilled to partner with Yalumba. Both companies are family owned, are leading experts in their fields and produce group 1 winners and quality wine. The late Colin Hayes AM OBE once said that 'Wherever you can grow vines, you can grow horses.' With that in mind, and with both companies benefiting from the same rich Australian soil, I can think of no better partnership.”

Inglis clients will be presented with opportunities to sample Yalumba products over the next 12 months, with Yalumba offering special deals to Vendors at Premier and Easter sales and will be hosting an array of events and master classes for Inglis clients, in particular supporting the 2012 Inglis Equine Art Award events in August.

Robert Hill Smith, Proprietor of Yalumba is a long- time supporter of racing and Inglis. He said “I am personally thrilled the partnership with the Inglis’ has been formalised and look forward to telling our stories and showcasing our finest wines to their coterie of supporters and racing industry stakeholders. As family businesses working in a very competitive environment I hope we can mutually celebrate success at the highest levels of our professions.”

Yalumba joins an elite stable of Inglis sponsors in 2012 including Major partner Luxbet, Destination NSW, Antler Luggage, Audi Sydney Centre and Audi Melbourne Centre, Callaway Golf, Crowne Plaza Coogee, Crown Hotels Melbourne, Hume Council, Jaeger Le Coultre, Mittys, and Swarovski Optik.

About Yalumba

Yalumba was founded in 1849 by Samuel Smith, an English brewer, who brought his family to South Australia and later Angaston seeking a new life. After a foray to the goldfields he purchased a 30-acre parcel of land just beyond the southern-eastern boundary of Angaston, and with his son Sydney began planting the first vines by moonlight. Samuel named his patch "Yalumba" – aboriginal for "all the land around". Five generations and 162 years later Yalumba, Australia's oldest family-owned and most innovative winery, has grown in size and stature, embodying all that has made the Australian wine success story the envy of winemakers the world over.
