Celebrating 40 years this year, the South Australian Branch of the Australian Stock Horse Society was formed at a meeting held in 1972, just twelve months after the Australian Stock Horse Society began in NSW. This makes the Club one of the oldest Australian Stock Horse branches in the country!
The SA Branch, as it was then known, was renamed SA Central Branch after the South East of South Australia branch was formed. Much camaraderie and sportsmanship is still present between the two branches in South Australia.
Shows, Futurities, Challenges, training days and recently a successful Saddlery Swap Meet are all held by the SA Central Branch. They also offer High Point End of Year Trophies, cash and incentive awards over various disciplines (such as polocrosse, campdrafting, hacking and pony club).
The SA Central Branch continues to grow and prosper with members taking part in the many Australian Stock Horse activities available.
The branch motto is: “A commitment to excellence in breeding horses and building horsemanship.”
Club secretary and treasurer, Jenny Scheepers, a long time member of the club says, “even though numbers at shows have dropped in recent years, unfortunately we no longer see 30 – 40 horses in classes, which seems to be happening in many breeds, there is still plenty of interest in the club and Australian Stock Horses.”
“Many of our members are now focusing on campdrafting, which has grown hugely in South Australia in recent years. There are also those who specialise more in English disciplines and compete in dressage and showjumping.”
“We are happy to provide events and training days for members in whatever disciplines they choose to focus on with their Stock Horses. There are several training days planned throughout 2012 and these will cover many different areas.”
To find out more about the SA Central Branch events and training days and to join, follow the link below to their website.
For Australian Stock Horse enthusiasts in other areas, there are 66 ASHS Branches throughout Australia, visit the ASHS website via link below to find one near you.
The SA Central Branch recently held their Annual Futurity and Maturity Show, which Horsezone was very happy to sponsor, promote and report on – one of the benefits of being registered with Horsezone’s Club Contribution Scheme!
Raise More $$ For Your Club
Are you looking to raise more funds for your Club? Be like the ASH SA Central Branch and take advantage of Horsezone’s offer of a fundraising opportunity - 10% of products listing fee for all listings placed by your members! Click here to find out more about how the Club Contribution Scheme works and to register your Club. When you register with Horsezone, to help raise more funds, you can also integrate our comprehensive sales listings into your Club's website! Integration encourages members to list stallions at stud, horses, floats or gear for sale with Horsezone and in turn donate 10% of their listing fees back to the Club. If you'd like to go ahead with integration, simply email jenny@horsezone.com.au with the search criteria for what you would like to show up on your site eg: a Australian Stock Horse Branch might like 'Australian Stock Horses and Campdraft horses for sale’ - this would mean all horses advertised with breed 'Australian Stock Horse' and/or discipline 'Campdraft' would appear on that Club's website. It’s super easy to set up – add it to your existing classifieds page or save the hassle of setting one up and use our comprehensive sales site! Integration is currently used by the Sydney Quarter Horse Association for great success! Click here to see it in action.
