Conn & Smith Have a Real Diamond in Rockstar

With Real Diamond topping the German Dressage Breeding Rankings, Australasian breeders looking to incorporate his blood into their programmes will find the answer through his son currently based on the Gold Coast in Royston Rockstar.

Real Diamond’s breeding index was rated at 173 in 2010 seeing him come in ahead of the likes of Don Schufro (Donnerhall) who was rated 171 and those rated 170 in Brietling W (Bismarck) and Damon Hill (Donnerhall).

The breeding value alludes to the performance potential a sire passes on and judging by the stamp Rockstar is leaving on his progeny, this trait’s also been passed from his father onto the rising six-year-old Westfalian.

Imported by Ben Conn and Tracy Smith in late February 2007, the stunning chestnut stood in New Zealand for a season before Conn’s relocation to the Gold Coast where he’s now comfortably working on the higher level movements.

In addition to Rubenstein and Rohdiamant, Rockstar’s lineage also includes Weltmeyer through Real Diamond’s dam Wallery, Florestan through his dam Florida plus Hill Hawk, Ishhallah, Furioso II and Paradox.

Breeders may have limited opportunity to patronise the super young stallion who could be heading offshore in July this year.

Of the partnership’s plans for Rockstar Conn comments “At the moment our main aim is the Sydney CDI from 28 – 30 April with a view of qualifying for the World Young Horse Championships.”

When asked for the young stallion’s highlights, Conn was hard pressed to single out just one, “He really is the complete package. He’s got the trainability, the talent for collection and also has a great ability to extend. Furthermore, he’s passing all of this onto his foals which is really exciting”
