Ekka Horses Jump for Gold!
This year the Royal Queensland Show’s (Ekka) Main Arena will play host to some of the most courageous competitors when it holds the World Cup qualifier for show jumping during the prestigious Horse Competition.
The show welcomes back the World Cup qualifier for show jumping after a brief hiatus. Be prepared to see some of Australia’s best horses and riders compete for more than $7,000 in cash and prizes in the World Cup qualifier.
Bringing some glitz and glamour to the Ekka, Thoroughbred Day (August 12) will showcase the beauty and versatility of thoroughbred horses. Returning to the Ekka for its eighth year, this unique, day-long event offers almost $30,000 in cash and prizes and the title of Supreme Champion Thoroughbred.
This year’s Horse Competition will offer a spectacular variety of events and competitions that draw in some of the biggest and most passionate crowds to watch some of the best groomed animals take over the Main Arena.
More than 30 horse breeds will be on display over the 10 days of show and almost $130,000 will be awarded to winners within the Horse Competition including the show’s traditional favourites - thoroughbreds, stud horses, horses in action and the farriers and blacksmiths. These competitions will be judged by horse experts from across the country.
Ekka visitors can horse around with more than 15 exhibitors at the Horse Breeds Expo – from the colourful leopard-spotted coat of the Appaloosa to the small in stature but large in life Miniature Horse.
The gates to Queensland’s largest and most loved annual event will open on August 8. More than 400,000 people who will come together to see the best the state has to offer. Celebrating the 137th show this year, the Ekka is full of traditions, a unique atmosphere and childhood memories which have been passed down through generations of families.
The Ekka is a salute to the state's best in agriculture, industry, entertainment and achievement. It is the true heartbeat of Queensland.
