Riders from across NSW are preparing to compete at the 2017 NSW Dressage Championships, to be held at Sydney International Equestrian Centre (SIEC) from August 31 to September 3.
The championships are set to be the biggest in recent years, with an increased program taking in Adult Amateur Owner Riders (AOR), Open, Pony and Para Dressage categories, meaning many more competitors are able to compete and many for the first time.
A total of 223 riders – the highest number in the past four years – will compete more than 280 horses over the course of the championships.
The championships will also include a CDI-W competition, which means competitors can gain World Cup qualification. The CDI-W falls into the EA Preliminary Selection Period for riders to qualify for the EA Nominated Selection Events next year.
Dressage NSW president Helen Lawson said the extra categories would encourage more riders to compete in the Olympic sport across NSW.
“We are pleased with the continuing growth of the sport in this state, and want to encourage grass-roots competitors to come up through the ranks,” she said.
“At the same time, we offer extremely strong competition for our professional riders and are pleased these championships will feature the state's top riders once again competing across the levels.
“We would encourage spectators to come along and see what the sport of dressage is all about and watch the best horses and riders that NSW has to offer go through their paces.”
Admission to the championships is free on all days. Parking, catering and bar facilities are available at the venue.
