Entries open for The Way of the Horse at EQUITANA 2016
Applications are now open for the renowned “The Way of the Horse” (TWOTH) competition to be held at EQUITANA Melbourne in November of this year.
The hotly contested three-day young horse “starting” contest, which is unique to Australia, will feature the best trainers from across the country. These trainers will work with unhandled stock horses in front of a 5000 strong crowd daily, demonstrating their highly personal and specialised methods.
In front of an esteemed panel of leading national and international colt starting experts, trainers will be assessed on criteria including obedience in all three paces, willingness and creativity, two candidates will join 2014 reserve Damian Hall to present their style and skill.
The selection process for applicants is tightly controlled. All trainers must submit a history of credentials regarding their previous training experience along with a video showing them working with an unhandled horse. From all the applications that are received, five trainers will be shortlisted to the audition stage of the selection process.
Last year’s winner Bruce O’Dell believes that this competition has heavy weighting for professional development.
“It was a great opportunity for clients, new and old, to actually see what I do every day and the methods I used. Most clients don’t get to see the starting process, just the finished result, so TOWTH offered a transparent platform to showcase my kind yet effective techniques to the broader industry” said O’Dell.
EQUITANA will return to Melbourne from 17th to the 20th of November in 2016. The event will take place at the Melbourne Showgrounds and will be the best showcase of horse power in the country.
Applications should be submitted online by visiting www.equitana.com.au/twoth-eol.html and submitting their video and information. Only three contestants will be selected for the TWOTH final so positions are hotly contested.
Applications will be open from the 17th of December and then closing on the 31st of January. Applicants should act quickly to get organised and have their entries in on time to make them available for EQUITANA’s selection process.
