Eventing Legend Wayne Roycroft to Host Cross Country Course Walk on 7 May at World Cup

Published on Monday, May 2, 2011 in General

With over 40 years contributing to Australian Eventing at an elite level Wayne Roycroft needs no introduction. The Australian Eventing Team has achieved 11 Olympic medals in total and Wayne has been directly involved with 8 of them. During his appointment as the National Coach from 1988 to 2010, Wayne proved to be one of Australia’s most successful Olympic coaches. In that time Australia won three successive Olympic team gold medals; Barcelona 1992, Atlanta 1996 and Sydney 2000 and Silver at the 2008 Beijing Games. Two individual medals were also achieved (Gold by Matt Ryan in Barcelona and Silver by Andrew Hoy in Sydney). Before his coaching days Wayne was a three-time Olympian and won two bronze medals.

In addition to his coaching commitments, Wayne has been a visionary for the sport of Eventing. In 2000 he was elected as Chairman of the FEI Eventing Committee, a position he held for nine years.  Since 2005 he has been the driving force behind the Australian Talent Search program. Each year he assesses hundreds of horses and riders to select those he sees as talent for the future.  Wayne has also been a mentor to Australian Sports Commission scholarship coaches to help develop emerging coaches for the future. Wayne also served for many years as the Chair of Equestrian NSW and Equestrian Australia.

Sydney International Eventing is proud to announce this exciting opportunity to walk the Olympic Cross Country Course with Wayne Roycroft as the host. Participants will learn how the elite riders negotiate the difficult fences from Wayne as he escorts the tour around the Equestrian NSW CIC3*World Cup track. Whilst the course walk is on the CIC1* and CIC2* riders (many of them also in the 3* class) will be on course adding an exciting element to the tour.

Everyone is invited to attend the course walk which will leave from the cross country start, located below Arena 4 at 9:30am on Saturday 7 May. Bookings can be made at the Merchandise Tent in the Indoor Arena or spectators may turn up for the tour on Saturday. Cost for general public is just $10 (pay on the day) and monies raised will be used towards course improvements for future events.
