Five Minutes With... Cover Girl - Dalgangle Folly
It's not unusal for gorgeous horses to grace the cover of equestrian magazines, however, it is cause for great excitement when one of our beautiful equines manages to make it onto the cover of a main stream magazine and adorable 12.1hh Welsh B Pony mare, Dalgangle Folly (Dalgangle Mandarin X Dalgangle Polly), managed to do just that! Folly - co-starring with a Christmas tree - is the covergirl for the December issue of glossy and fabulous lifestyle magazine, Country Style.
Dalgangle Folly, who was bred by M Lucas of Winslow Victoria, in 2002, lives with her slightly less famous paddock mates and doting humans, Justine, Lachie, Ally, Victoria and Annabelle Wake, at picturesque Talaheni Pony Stud, located an hour each from the south coast and the SA border at Hamilton, Victoria.
Before launching her modelling career, Folly was busy doing what all good ponies do - helping her devoted little human, Ally Wake, have fun and fulfill her horsey dreams at shows and pony club - including winning the PC aggregate at Kingston SA show 2010.
Folly, who possesses the ever so un-glamorous nickname of 'Hoover', due to the fact she always keeps her paddock clean of food, was able to interrup her busy schedule for a quick chat with Horsezone, (hopefully she won't be upset with us for telling everyone about the nickname)...
How did you first become involved in modelling?
My humans were contacted by Country Style magazine, who obviously have great taste and knew I was perfect for the job! The covergirl gig was my first job, but you never know where it might lead? It was a very enjoyable experience even though the only food on offer was a Christmas tree. Still, it didn’t taste too bad. The photographer was thrilled I wasn't scared of the tree. Humph! scared of food? Never!
What did you do before your modelling career took off?
I was ridden daily (and still am despite my fame) by my 10 year old human, Ally Wake. I attended Dunkeld Pony Club, did the odd round of showjumping and hunter classes at local Ag shows. This was a lot of effort though, but it looks like I'll get more of the same next year, in addition to my new career.
How did you prepare for your ‘close up’?
It was all very sudden - one minute I was hanging out in the paddock and next minute I was on the catwalk in Melbourne... Well, not really a catwalk, in front of a camera anyway. I was literally dragged out of the paddock one cold day and clipped, but the best thing about being hairless was definitely spending nights rugged and stabled with lots of good warm food.
What coat care and diet regime do you follow to keep your stunning looks?
Coat care? Keep out of the weather with a good sunshade, all year round. Diet? Eat whenever I please! Good food makes for a happy and gorgeous pony.
How are the other ponies at home treating you now you are famous?
They were envious of my ‘wide load’ and picture-book looks long before I was famous for it, now they just stop and stare, sighing with envy. You know how it is?
Any tips for other aspiring equine models out there?
Eat well and keep that rider happy - so the food doesn’t run out!
Plans for Christmas?
Carrots, apples, cornflakes, hot barley with molasses and no strenuous activity... Merry Christmas to all!
