Four Group 1 Races to Round off Sydney Carnival
Schweppes Sydney Cup Day at Royal Randwick on Saturday, the final day of the 2011 Sydney Carnival, has four magnificent Group 1 races on an impressive eight race programme.
The $500,000, Group 1, Schweppes Sydney Cup (3200m) leads the day along with the $500,000, Group 1, Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m); $400,000, Group 1, Moet & Chandon Champagne Stakes (1600m); $400,000, Group 1, The Daily Telegraph All-Aged Stakes (1400m) and four other stakes races.
There is a grand total of $2.3 million in stakes on offer on Easter Saturday.
There are 209 nominations for the eight race programme, including 81 for the Schweppes Sydney Cup, with the final fields out on Wednesday.
With Black Caviar safely back in Melbourne, having a short spell before continuing her campaign in Brisbane, six of the field from her latest triumph in the Group 1 Darley TJ Smith Stakes have been nominated for the All-Aged Stakes (1400m).
There are 17 nominations for the field including Hay List (second in the Darley TJ Smith Stakes); Triple Honour (NZ) (third); Alverta (fourth); Hinchinbrook (fifth); All Silent (eighth) and Shoot Out (ninth).
Other nominations include Eagle Falls, Heart Of Dreams, Melito and Group 1 George Ryder Stakes winner Rangirangdoo (NZ). Love Conquers All, second in last Saturday’s Group 1 Emirates Doncaster Mile, is nominated along with Danleigh and Centennial Park (NZ) who also ran in the feature.
Cedarberg, the winner of the Group 1, WFA The BMW (2400m) at Rosehill on April 2nd is one of 23 nominations for the Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m).
Also nominated are the Group 1 WFA Ranvet Stakes winner Zavite (NZ), who is also in the Sydney Cup nominations, AJC Derby second placegetter Retrieve and Saturday’s Doncaster Mile winner Sacred Choice.
The first three home in the Group 1 Sires’ Produce Stakes over 1400m on Derby Day, April 9th, Helmet, Uate and Paine In The Glass are back for another clash in the Moet Champagne Stakes (1600m). There are 13 nominations for the race.
