Free Rein - Bryan Brown and Rachel Ward's Horsey Adventure

Published on Thursday, November 3, 2011 in General

Did anyone check out Lonely Planet's latest documentary, Free Rein, which aired last night for the first time?  There were plenty of horses featured, as legendary Australian actors - husband and wife - Bryan Brown and Rachel Ward saddled up and followed a stockman's trail through the harsh Australian outback.  I loved that Rachel's little Appaloosa was called Jojo and that the pair obviously had heaps of fun droving and viewing the wonders of the bush from the best possible location - the back of a horse.

The Kimberley region, often referred to as the "last frontier" of Australia, serves as a backdrop to the duo's many adventures, which in addition to the horse trekking and droving, include canetoad busting, a rodeo and saltwater croc wrangling.  Undeniably one of the harshest and least forgiving parts of Australia, The Kimberley does throw some challenges at the duo, making this program entertaining viewing that offers an informative look into a life and region often overlooked in by many Australians.

Free Rein will next be shown at 6pm on Friday 5 November on BBC Knowledge, so be sure to tune in!
