Fun For All at Pioneer Village Horses' Birthday Celebration

Published on Tuesday, August 2, 2011 in General

The Australiana Pioneer Village at Wilberforce held a Horses' Birthday Celebration last Sunday and it appears that all the local horses and horse people turned up to join in the fun!

"Their were heavy horses, including the the majestic Shire horses from Shandell Park and Brooke Carrington; members from various Pony Clubs and The Australian Light horse; Save the Brumbies from Maitland; a beautiful Andalusian courtesy D and C Castro; Natural Horsemanship representatives; horse trainer Lisa Clarke; John and Pam Ashton who travelled up from Canberra to share knowledge of harnessing; and many others. I lost track of them all and apologise if I have missed someone . There are some lovely people out there!" says one of the event organisers, Kerry Gannell.

Ron and Val Males - who were part of the original Tom Quilty Endurance Ride organising committee - were also there in the 'Quilty Shed', which was built at the Pioneer Village for the very first Quilty ride.  Ron also had all the buckles he has won on display for visitors to admire.

To kick off proceedings, the horses paraded through town with the Light horse leading the way and what a wonderful sight that was - it transformed the town back 100 years! The impressive procession made their way up to the top of town, with the smaller children following on hobby horses, where a much anticipated carrot cake was waiting.

Happy birthday was sung and each horse was given a carrot, while the hobby horse riders were excited about the opportunity to name their mounts, which made for plenty of happy horses and children.

Kerry and the other organisers was very impressed with the support the event recieved, "a huge thank you to everyone who helped to make the day so special!"
