Galloping from Strength to Strength

Published on Monday, December 6, 2010 in General

A FAMILY'S love of horses and a desire to own her own pony called Pumpkin, became a reality for 7-year-old Vienna, when earlier this year Make-A-Wish Australia made a surprise delivery of a gorgeous palomino pony.

The 12-hand horse was duly dubbed ‘Little Miss Pumpkin’.

Vienna was diagnosed with a brain tumour last year and had endured months of gruelling treatment. It was during those months of radiation and chemotherapy that Vienna kept her spirits up dreaming of sitting astride her very own horse.

"She was overwhelmed when the pony arrived,’ Vienna's mum, Sue, said "She he has been riding it every day."

Vienna’s aunt and uncle run a pony club so she is looking forward to competing in gymkhanas when she is strong enough.

So until then, Vienna will build up her strength with regular rides as well as learning how to groom Pumpkin and make her pretty for shows.

While her prognosis is extremely good, Vienna will still have to have regular checkups over the next couple of years. In the meantime she can look forward to many happy years of riding a horse called ‘Pumpkin’.

Make-A-Wish Australia needs the support of the Australian community more than ever, to continue granting an increasing number of Wishes to children with life-threatening medical conditions.

Make-A-Wish Australia has been bringing hope, strength and joy to children with life-threatening medical conditions since 1985 and is the only children’s charity in Australia that focuses solely on Wish granting.
