GCT Monaco - Royal Patronage, Jet Set Glamour and Top Level Equestrian Sport

Published on Friday, June 29, 2012 in General

Global Champions Tour sweeps into the breathtaking destination of the Principality of Monaco with a sensational mix of world class show jumping, international glamour and Royal patronage.

Sports stars, international business tycoons and VIPs from the worlds of luxury fashion and design are expected to descend on the enchanting Port d’Hercule showground in Monte-Carlo from June 28-30. Overlooked by the stunning Prince’s Palace on the Rocher, the beautiful arena is being constructed to host the world’s top 30 riders and horses for the sixth leg of the Global Champions Tour 2012 series.

GCT Monaco is a heady cocktail of high style, great sport and fantastic facilities for spectators, sponsors and the sportsmen and women who take part. GCT Monaco Honorary President Charlotte Casiraghi is aiming for exceptionally high standards again this year and promises a few surprises for the crowds at this magical show, which has become part of the enduring Monaco fairytale.

Monaco is one of the jewels in the GCT crown and as well as the associations with the high octane world of 007 James Bond, the Principality has ancient roots and the Grimaldi dynasty has reigned over Monaco for over 700 years.  HSH Prince Albert II is an enthusiastic supporter of major sporting events in Monaco from the legendary Formula One Grand Prix to ATP Tennis - all benefitting from the dream location on the Riviera.  Prince Albert is also a passionate advocate for protecting the environment.

Known for attracting the world’s wealthy and glamorous to its shores, Monaco has no shortage of luxury hotels, fine dining, great nightlife and boutiques of the world’s most exclusive design houses. Visitors can stroll alongside the famous Yacht Harbour, bristling with multi-million pound vessels, or stop at the Cafe de Paris next to the Belle Epoque Monte-Carlo Casino, one of the most glamorous Bond locations and featured in Never Say Never Again and GoldenEye. Even without 007 the square outside the casino, part of the Formula One circuit, is always buzzing with supercars and glamorous Monegasques and visitors.

Over the past few weeks since the Formula One circuit packed up and left Monaco, the area of Port Hercule has been transformed for the GCT show jumping spectacle. Stables have been built. A spectator tribune. Stunning VIP corporate hospitality loges have been constructed and interior designed. Chic boutiques in the commercial village have been built and the double deck riders club and hospitality area has been completed.

Here are some of the facts and figures behind the GCT Monaco:
  • 1,100 tonnes of sand
  • over 200 horses
  • nearly 90 professional and amateur riders
  • 60 trucks
  • 700 bags of shavings
  • 20 suppliers
  • over 100 bales of hay
  • over 10,000 visitors
  • €285,000 Grand Prix prize money

All competitions of upcoming GCT events are streamed live via the GCT website. With both amateur and 5* competitions, you can watch show jumping all day. Don’t have time to watch now? Don’t worry, all competitions are clipped and linked into the results making it super easy for you to watch the rounds from your favorite riders On-Demand.
