The Glen Haven Park Grand Prix Show, held on 7-8 July, certainly did a great job of bringing all the glamour and excitement of showjumping to the small town of Kilcoy, Queensland!
With a large numbers of entries from all over Australia, as well as some New Zealand competitors and fantastic support from the local community and businesses, this show was set to be all class.
The spectators were treated to top showjumping in the main arena, with the Future Stars Competition taken out by Robert Moffatt and Finch Farm Viduka, who put in the only triple clear round. David Sheppard's Classy and tough course design proving its worth, to start off the first of the premier events in the Power Up Lawn Care Products Main Arena.
There was plenty more excitement in store for spectators, with the Ian and Di McCauley Cup providing a nail biting finish, going down to the last fence and the last horse. Paula Hamood and Nero GHP were last out and jumped a scorcher of a round, four seconds in front on time, then unfortunately they had the last fence down, leaving the win to the always in-form it seems, Jamie Kermond and Valhalla (pictured above and below left).
The Jo Weller Memorial Mini Prix was another exciting event, proving again that Paula Hamood is not only an accomplished organiser of shows but also the one to watch inside the arena. There were eight horses and riders to jump off and the first to post a quick time, for the others to chase, was Olivia Hamood on the speedy Bucks Bunny. Everyone thought maybe Olivia had it in the bag until Sarah McMillan came in with Belcam Amada, throwing caution to the wind and flying around in a very quick time, taking all inside options to seize the lead. Last but not least was Paula riding the lovely imported gelding Airtime Z GHP. Paula knew she had to do something special to win the class and that she did, shaving almost two seconds off Sarah's time to win the event!
Other Grand Prix Winners for the weekend in Arena Two were Jamie Raymont and Kavalier Kid in the 1.10 Grand Prix and Paige Dumble riding Gold Warrior in the Junior Grand Prix.
Competitors were treated to some very nice courses built by Ian Hamilton in Arena Two, where amongst other events, the Horsezone 1.10m class was held and won by Robert Goodwin riding Casablanca.
The Best Presented Horse and Rider in the Ian and Di McCauley Grand Prix was won by Billy Raymont and the beautifully turned out Stardom. Billy will be even better presented after receiving one of our flash red Horsezone jackets as a prize!!
"A big congratulations to all the placegetters and a massive thank you to all who helped to make the Glen Haven Grand Prix Show for 2012 the success that it was!" said Paula Hamood.
