'Go Jump' Flashback! Vicki Roycroft and Coalminer

Published on Thursday, January 24, 2013 in General

Having represented Australia in four Olympics, as well as numerous Nations Cups and World Cup Finals, Vicki Roycroft has had many successful horses. However, the horse that she considers the very best so far was her Australian bred thoroughbred Coalminer. Here she recalls her very successful partnership with this willing, wonderful horse.

Coalminer, a black, 16.25hh thoroughbred, was bred in Western Australia, where he was owned by Dianne Prince. After selling Vicki a majority share in the horse, Dianne maintained a part ownership in the horse throughout his working life.

Coalminer didn’t race, and was broken relatively late, so had enduring soundness throughout his show jumping career. Although Dianne may have started the horse, he was competed over in the West by Sean Squire, who transported him to Eastern Australia to compete him at World Cup level, in an early Summer Classic.
