Gold Experience at the Sydney Polo Club

Published on Friday, October 14, 2011 in General

Sydney Polo Club hosts its annual “Sydney Gold Cup” on Sunday 23 October 2011. The day includes fashions on the field competition being judged by POLO Ralph Lauren, celebrities and drinks in the countryside. A perfect picnic outing for the family with free children's entertainment or an exclusive opportunity for the socialites to showcase the latest spring season wardrobe in the VIP area, with Pommery Champagne as a sponsor.

The Sydney Gold Cup is a fun, glamorous and unique polo event, located only 50 minutes from Sydney CBD at the magnificent grounds of the Sydney Polo Club. This spectacular day will see the gathering of over 400 polo ponies coming together to compete for the prestigious Sydney Gold Cup.

The day has become a “Cornerstone for the Australian Polo season” says Sydney Polo Club Director, Rebecca Higgins, attracting “International polo players and some of the most well bred ponies in the country.”

The gates open to the public at 10.30am, with hundreds of horses having already arrived on semi-trailers, from a range of country towns, the sidelines turn into a hive of activity as horse grooms and players make the final preparations for the game.
The spectators prepare themselves for the big game by laying out a champagne picnic or mingling in the VIP sponsor pavilion.

Not only an elitist sport, the first recorded polo tournament was in 600 BC when the Turkish beat the Persians in a public match, the game a training method for war. Today however any audience can enjoy the day, with an expected audience ranging from families, to trendy young social circles to high net worth individuals. The day is also suited to a corporate level with VIP packages available. Regardless, all spectators will be enthralled by the stamina of the horses as they watch them galloping down the stretch of the field, almost 10 acres in size. An Experience also enjoyed by the Bentley Drivers Club annually.

By the final match of the day the air is heavy with anticipation. No other sport in the world unites fine sportsmanship with the prestige and glamour as polo does. Unlike many other sports, watching is as exhilarating as playing.
