Gold Medal Winner to Ride Ponies at PSI DJWTS

Published on Friday, February 4, 2011 in General

Once again a European Pony Championships gold medal winner will be attending PSI Dressage & Jumping with the Stars and guest-riding the top three placed ponies in each age group. This is exciting news for the pony competitors, some of whom at last year’s DJWTS were thrilled to have a rider of this calibre riding and assessing their dressage pony.

Annabel Frenzen was a member of the German gold medal winning team at the 2006 European Pony Championships, alongside team mate Lydia Camp who was the guest rider here in 2010. Riding the stallions Flamenco Star and Going Top, Annabel has twice won the German Pony Derby (2005 & 2006) which has a similar format to the Marcus Oldham Aachen Challenge, with the top three riders having to ride each other’s ponies in the final. An experienced and talented young pony competitor she has shown successfully at the Bundeschampionships, with a highlight being winning the 5 year old title with Nip Tuck in 2007, and at the same time, taking four other ponies into the finals !

Annabel has made a successful transition to the big horses and Young Rider competitions, placing second in the 2010 German Young Rider Championships with “Cristobal” with whom she is planning and preparing for their first Grand Prix start in 2011.

With Christobal she was selected as reserve rider for the German Team for the 2010 European Young Rider Championships and has recently been named on the German Young Rider Team Squad for 2011.

In other exciting news for the pony competitors, there will be a 6yo Young Pony Championship for the first time, as well as a “Champion of Champions” award valued at $2,000 thanks to generous sponsorship from Jill Cobcroft.

Competition schedules are available from the event website:  www.equestrianvictoriaevents.com.au/DJWTS and competitors should note that entries close on February 9.

2011 PSI Dressage & Jumping with the Stars runs over 3 days, from March 24- 26, at the Werribee Park National Equestrian Centre. Tickets are now available for advance purchase from GPAC, phone 03 52251200.
