Published on Sunday, December 8, 2013 in General

Queensland's racing and equestrian fraternity is mourning the deaths of well-known saddlery business owner Greg Grant and his wife Patricia, reports  couriermail.com.au.

The Caloundra couple was killed in a car crash in India on Friday night (Australian time) as they neared the end of a dream holiday.

Details of the accident were still emerging last night but it is understood a taxi carrying Mr Grant, 69, and his 68-year-old wife was hit by a truck which veered out of control.

They are believed to have been on their way to the airport at Udaipur in the western province of Rajasthan to begin their journey back home after several weeks away.

“It’s such a tragedy,” a friend said last night. “They should be home now.’’

The couple’s daughter Amanda Innes and son-in-law Wroxton Innes were travelling in another cab at the time of the collision.

I worked for Greg and Pat in the early to mid 1990s and they were a great family to work for. I really enjoyed running their mail order saddlery department and have many fond memories of my time working with them. I am shocked and saddened by this terrible news and would like to express sincere condolences to Amanda, Barton and Wroxton, and all of their family and friends, from the Horsezone team.

I also worked for Greg when he first started his saddlery business. I knew him from his auctions at Cannon Hill and when he opened his first little shop at Archerfield, I worked there part time. I also rode on his first float in the great Warana parade through the city. Lovely man - he will be sorely missed in the world - both equestrian and otherwise :(
