Gunning to host State Pony Club Championship

The Pony Club NSW, ACCIONA, Gunning Wind Farm, State Jumping Equitation Championships will be held at the Gunning Showgrounds, Gunning from 16-18 May 2014.  

The Jumping Equitation Championships is an annual event held at a different location every year and hosted by a local pony club zone. This year’s event is hosted by Pony Clubs located in the Zone 27 region.

We have 160 competitors entered in the championship, with competitors travelling from all over NSW.

Riders will be competing across four classes and will be judged both on their riding style and control of the horse whilst jumping.

The championship will commence Saturday, 17 May from 8:30 and conclude Sunday afternoon with the mounted presentation ceremony.

Local Host Zone 27 has entered seven riders to compete at the event.

According to host zone contact Jacki Waugh, in order to prepare for the event local riders have been attending the local shows, clinics and pony club camps.

“The local Jump Club held a clinic with Jane Frankum (PCANSW State Coach) to which members have attended, along with the usual jump club training days. We have just held our annual Zone 27 Pony Club camp, which had 2 jumping instructors for all the children to enjoy,” mentioned Jacki.

The host zone has also been kept busy making and painting jump wing and poles for the event.

A canteen will be operational from Friday lunchtime until the conclusion of competition on Sunday, with a variety of meals & snacks available to cater for all.

“Tickets may be collected from the canteen on arrival on Friday for the Saturday night dinner, please ensure you have pre ordered you dinner no later than the 1st May, so the chefs are able to finalize meal numbers,” requested Jacki.

 “Merchandise Orders have closed but we will be taking orders during the event with an additional fee of $10 to cover postage. Orders must be paid for at the time of ordering.”

“All riders attending are also requested to pre order any bedding or stock feed by ringing Gunning Ag & Water Solutions on 02 4845 1113, so that they can make sure they have enough bedding on hand.”

Entry is free to the grounds and spectators are most welcome to come and watch the competition or browse the trade stands that will be in operation over the weekend.

The next state event is the State Showjumping Championships which is to be held at Condobolin Showgrounds, Condobolin from 5-6 July 2014.
