The GVQH&WRC Ladycroft Wines Summer Sizzler held at Tatura, on 24-27 February, certainly lived up to its name with sizzling hot action in the arena and temperatures in the high 30s!
With 200 entries there were plenty of top quality western-bred horses for USA judge, Rhonda Replogle, to admire over the four days of the show.
As always, this event was extremely well run with the committee receiving plenty of compliments from competitors on their superior organisational skills and impressive treatment of valued sponsors. View all Summer Sizzler sponsors here.
Everyone's favourite man behind the microphone, Ralph Dunn, was busy announcing and keeping those of us not lucky enough to be there, up to date with his regular facebook posts of results. Sunday afternoon especially, it seemed every western horse enthusiast across the country who wasn't at the show, was glued to facebook waiting for Ralph to post winners and placegetters for the prestigious $25,000 3yo Western Pleasure Slot Class. What did we do before social media?
The gorgeous imported Quarter Horse stallion, Smoochin, ridden by Holly Johnson won this highly anticipated class - a big congratulations to Carolyn Johnson, all at Rockin Horse Ranch and Smoochin's shareholders on this win. Second place went to another lovely, recently imported stallion, Sure a Fine Cowboy ridden by David Pearce (owned by Don and Liz Newnham) who we can't wait to see more of, while third was taken out by Jo Gregory's consistently impressive bay gelding, Bruce Almighty, ridden by Tim French. All the horses in this class were of the highest quality and raised the bar for how top western pleasure horses should perform.
Congratulations to organisers and all competitors on another great Sizzler!
