Hawkesbury Dressage Championships

Published on Monday, January 24, 2011 in Sponsored Shows

The 2010 Hawkesbury Dressage Championships was held in November 2010 and was once again a successful show, despite rain in the lead up days.  Sally Barbera, Vice President and Sponsorship Co-Ordinator for the club said, "We are lucky that we have the amazing grounds of the Sydney International Equestrian Centre on which to hold our competitions. The arenas are so well drained that we have never had to cancel our competitions to date! Again we had some new and some repeat loyal sponsors who have supported us for many years now. Champions at each level won a beautiful kersey wool rug, made by Camelot Rugs and embroidered with our sponsors names, Reserve Champions won a HDC saddlecloth, kindly donated and embroidered by Sydney Equestrian Supplies".

Sponsors and Champions for 2010 were:

  • Friendly saddle fitter Tony Flynn from Brightons Saddleworld agreed to sponsor the Preliminary Championships. The Brightons stand is seen at many of the top shows in the country, so we were particularly pleased to welcome them on board on 2010. The Championship was won by Erica Malcolm and AEA Amigo with Reserve Penny Barrett & Lets Reminisce.
  • Novice Championship was sponsored by Nutri Rice/Coprice and won by Joanne Peet & Finest Edition, with Susan Elekessey and Don Rubin as Reserve. NutriRice have been a major sponsor of HDC for many years and rep Karen Tinney has really looked after the club at all competitions. In 2010 they not only donated fabulous feed prizes for all classes, they also sponsored the Championship level this year as well.
  • Needs 4 Steeds sponsored the Elementary Championships this year, won by James Collins and Southerly, with Gail Benson and Gracefield Stefan in Reserve spot. Needs for Steeds support the club with sponsorship as well as both James & Kate being tireless committee workers.
  • Hawkesbury Equine Veterinary Centre need no introduction, as well as saving horses lives, in 2010 they sponsored the Medium Championship level and it was won by Jessica Rae & Sandrels, with Dasimie Mandela Salude and Danielle Leek in Reserve.

In 2010 a special prize for the highest percentage achieved by a HDC member, was donated by resident photographers and wonderful video recorders, Free Rein Photography and won by Susan Elekessey.  Susan won a voucher for $200 worth of photos taken by Free Rein at HDC competitions. What a great prize!

Photographs from the competition can be found and ordered from the Free Rein website, in fact they have a whole page dedicated to Hawkesbury competition photos and will be available at all competitions in 2011 too.

On behalf of the club, Sally would like to thank all of their great sponsors, saying, "We couldn’t do it without you. Please riders, support them and encourage them to sponsor again next year! Let them know how much the dressge world appreciates their support.  Thanks to all riders, helpers and of course our great Hawkesbury Committee who made the day run so smoothly.  Here’s to a great 2011 for us all!"
