The Haydon family, Peter, Alison, Henry, Nick and David, would like to warmly welcome you to Bloomfield Homestead for their Spring Colt Sale, which is being held at 5.00pm on 8 October 2011.  An inspection of the colts commences at 1.00pm. 

"In response to enquiries for colts we decided to offer a range of colts all for sale at one time", says Peter Haydon about the decision to hold a Colt Sale, "We are dedicated and passionate about breeding good horses. For us it is a 'labour of love' and the satisfaction of seeing our horses perform at all levels. We feel the performances of our horses in recent years are the best recommendation and in a way speak for themselves."

"The 16 colts in this catalogue represent a range which we hope will suit most potential buyers. It is important to remember that there is no such thing as the perfect horse but you use genetics as a means to achieving the end you wish to achieve.  We are confident to back these colts and our policy is always to make sure buyers are happy with their purchases, so we will make arrangements to facilitate this if necessary."

The colts offered for sale feature elite performance bloodlines including Acres Destiny, Haydon Nightwatch, Techrico and Murrabong Victory - and that's only the sires! 

The Haydon horses at Bloomfield have the unique claim of being bred by the same family on the same property since the early 1830s.

The horses in the stud today are grouped into families which trace, mother to daughter, to the original foundation mares. Over the generations these families have been recorded and graded for temperament, conformation, action and ability.

The success of the stud today can be mostly attributed to the strength of these female lines. The stud's policy has been to breed a quality versatile riding horse with about three-quarter thoroughbred blood. Their heritage lines are blended with the best proven modern genetics, maintaining a strong thoroughbred influence.

"We believe 'the mare is 80% of breeding' and we trace our mare families back over ten generations at Bloomfield. It is uncanny how the traits of these families come through, passed on down the line from mother to daughter," says Peter, "an enormous amount of work is put into developing bloodlines for the future and it is reassuring to see the stud’s horses currently achieving at the top level both in Australia and overseas."

At Haydon Horse Stud they feel it is very important to a have hands on approach with their horses so they get to know every horse individually and personally and are able to carry out continual assessment. This starts as foals when all the handling and weaning is conducted by the Haydon Family.  During the horses' years of education they are ridden in the hills doing stock work. They all must be able to walk, be good in the bush and work well on cattle. Over the years it has been demonstrated that the top polo or polocrosse horse will win campdrafts, but not necessarily the other way round. Breezette was a classic example of this, winning polo prizes before winning campdrafts.
