Hermes Celebrates its Equestrian Heritage

Parisian brand Hermes, synonymous with luxury and steeped in equestrian heritage, started out in the early 1800s when Thierry Hermes, a harness and saddle maker set up shop in Paris and was established as one of the premier locations for leather goods and tack.

Now Hermes long association with horses and equestrian events has been resurrected with the Saut Hermes au Grand Palais, a prestigious showjumping event that was held for the first time last year and again recently, in the atrium of the Grand Palais - a setting normally reserved for cultural and artistic performances - right in the heart of Paris. Located just minutes from the Boulevard Champs Elysees, it seems an unlikely setting for an international equestrian extravaganza. But not so. From 1901 until their demise in 1957, equestrian shows were a regular event at the Palais and now they're back!
