Horse Rescued from Swimming Pool
A horse has spent five hours in a backyard swimming pool in Sydney's south-west before being rescued around midnight (AEDT) on Christmas Eve.
Fire crews were called to the house at Werombi around 6.00pm.
It is not known exactly how the 20-year-old grey mare, known as Piper, got into the pool, but Superintendent Warwick Kidd from the New South Wales Fire Brigades says it was no small task getting her out.
"It was almost 11.30pm before we were able to get Piper out," he said.
A vet was onsite to keep the animal calm, while fire crews used a giant sling and a crane to remove the horse from the pool.
Trees and a fence had to be removed before the crane could be moved into place.
The horse was eventually rescued and returned to her owners, with only a few bumps and bruises from her ordeal.
