Horsezone Helps Horse Welfare Inc Rescue Neglected Ponies

Be aware images in this article may be disturbing to some people. Horse Welfare Inc is a registered charity supporting the rescue, rehabilitation, re-training and re-housing of equines in need.

It was formed to support the plight of horses in need throughout the country and is based in the Hunter Valley, NSW, however they are able to co-ordinate with carers and other rescue organisations across the country.

As with all charity organisations, Horse Welfare Inc needs to raise funds to support their operations and they have a range of promotional products available for purchase, including knitted Huggie Horses for adoption.

In an effort to raise further funds Horse Welfare Inc joined the Horsezone Clubs Contribution scheme and raised over $100 in funds, which we are very happy to present to them.

Horsezone and Inglis have teamed up to top up the Club Contribution payout to $1,000 for Horse Welfare Inc. This is primarily  to help with the current project - the rescue of four neglected Welsh ponies, the only ponies to survive from a herd of fourteen.  We are very excited to be able to help and the Horsezone team is looking forward to meeting the ponies and following their progress.

The following details are from the Horse Welfare Facebook page...

Back in late 2006 a large horse rescue project took place for around 100 welsh ponies, mostly unhandled, many with foals at foot and heavily in foal. They were labelled "The Guyra Horses". They were from a deceased estate and on their way to slaughter but were saved. A massive task by a few people was undertaken and the rehoming, handling and gelding process began.

Following on from this story, Horse Welfare Inc received a call to rescue a small batch of ponies abandoned on a property, who were originally part of a larger group of Guyra horses adopted in 2007. Most of their mates were now dead (pictured is one poor pony who didn't make it) and were left rotting in the same paddock that these guys are grazing. Cause of death appeared to be poisoning from Crofton Weed.

The geldings are now 8-10 years old and other than the initial gelding through a crush, have had no handling.

So now Horse Welfare Inc is appealing for people to get behind the project and help. They are already suffering from the high cost of feed and continuing dry weather, but they cannot turn their back on these ponies.

At least $4000 needs to be raised to purchase another 30 - 40 panels, feed, water troughs and feeders and with generous support funds are coming in, but more is needed to help rehabilitate the ponies.

Yes, it's an expensive exercise for a small group of ponies, but what price should be put on saving these lives? Please help Horse Welfare Inc raise this money to give these poor ponies the chance they should of had six years ago.

The equipment purchased will be used to help all future rescues down the track. So you are not just contributing to one project and four lives, but will be helping many!
