Horsezone Interschools Program Update

Published on Thursday, September 22, 2011 in Sponsored Shows

Outstanding results amongst the Juniors involved in the Horsezone Interschools Program are coming from Events thick and fast.

The Equestriad held at Camden in August attracted over 450 entries across all the classes and juniors were well represented.  Kirby Delamont (pictured) from Frensham, riding her beautiful horse Badgerbay, are emerging as a combination to be watched. Competing in the two star class they are showing excellent form and look set to be knocking on the door of selection for the NSWIS elite squad in the near future.

We caught up with Kirby Delamont for her thoughts on the Interschools Program, "The Horsezone interschools competition has allowed the mix between interschools and the open competition arena. It allows not only recognition of interschools competitors but also of the involvement of school students in the equestrian world, which generally goes unnoticed. Horsezone has permitted juniors like myself to be recognized amongst our peers in a sport which usually has us competing against the likes of gold medalists and professional riders."

Kirby is very happy with how her horse, Badgerbay, is going and has big plans for the future, "Badgerbay is a 16.2hh Thoroughbred, 14 years old. We purchased from Will Enzinger in 2009, Will had previously competed at three star level on Badger. Badger and I finished the 2009 season in pre-novice, had the next season in one star and have now spent this season consolidating two star. I plan on competing in the CCI at the Adelaide 3DE in November, and would love to be considered for the Trans Tasman team going to New Zealand in 2012."

We look forward to hearing more of Kirby and Badgerbay in future!

Wendy Cohen, CEO NSW Branch of Equestrian Australia, is pleased with how the Interschools Program is going, saying,"Horsezone's contribution towards the recording and recognition of the results amongst Junior Competitors is very encouraging for the future of the Interschools Competitions".

Entries are very strong in Eventing at the moment with the upcoming Scone One Day Event attracting some 475 entries.  Equestrian Australia's Volunteer Register is proving popular with hard working event organisers and people are showing amazing interest and loyalty to the program, some traveling a very considerable distance to assist in providing the army of volunteers needed to run the events.

The Interschools Program in NSW is attracting entries from Queensland in particular and it is hoped that some of the juniors qualified will find themselves at the Adelaide Three Day Event in November.
