Horsezone Reviews - The Horsekeepers Handbook

A Word on the Author:

Accomplished horsewoman and visionary mother of two, Lyn Hoffmann, creator of The Horsekeepers Handbook, is a highly experienced trainer, breeder, competitor, judge and juggler (as are all of us who own horses), who knew exactly what was needed when developing this elite, complete equine records book!

"Horses are often a lifelong passion that we just can’t seem to get out of our system,” says Lyn. “I’ve had some wonderful horses in my life and I wish I’d had somewhere special to write down all those years of information, show records and memories, so I totally understand that side of it, too.  I love my horses…I can’t help it…they’re my passion!  But, over time, I’ve learnt that being well organised in your horse life not only makes for more responsible ownership, it leaves more time for the fun involved!  Filling in the organiser is so easy and owners will be keeping many great memories as well as creating important records they’ll be able to refer to anytime, anywhere.”

Who's Going to Love it?

From Miniatures to Clydesdales, The Horsekeepers Handbook suits every equine discipline and all breeds of horses and ponies. Whether you prefer English or Western riding, show your horses at Halter or Performance or love Dressage, Jumping, Eventing, Cutting, Campdrafting, Reining, Rodeo, Harness or Hacking, you’ll find it a very useful tool for organising and recording your horse life.

The Horsekeepers Handbook is also a great tool for teaching responsibility and value to horse loving kids.  As a gift for horse lovers, it's perfect!

Professional horse people especially find the finance and record keeping sections, as well as the vehicles and log book areas beneficial.

Renowned Australian Master horse trainer & clinician, Ian Francis OAM, is impressed with The Horsekeepers Handbook, saying, "As a trainer, clinician, breeder and competitor I’m impressed that, at last, someone has taken on the mammoth task of creating a comprehensive equine organiser. In development of The Horsekeepers Handbook, Lyn has ensured that she has provided for everything required for good record keeping on horses & equine competition.  Those people who are organised will appreciate the convenience, and for those like myself, who are disorganised at record keeping, it should be a necessity.”

Leanne Bartlett, a prominent Australian AQHA, HSAA & NRHA show judge and successful equine professional, is excited and speaks highly of the annual publication, "As a judge, trainer, competitor, breeder, clinician, panelist and general horse owner, I love that The Horsekeepers Handbook has a section for everyone!" says Leanne.  "This 'must have' equine organiser lets you keep up to date records of worming, breeding, farrier, training, showing, expenses & income, vet's advice and lots more.  For everyone who owns or shows a horse, it's very comprehensive, covering every equine detail. I couldn't be without one.”

What's So Great?

The Horsekeepers Handbook enables horse owners to build up a practical reference, store important records, show results and information.

This 178 page, A4 size publication has plenty of room for writing all relevant details, without being too bulky to store easily or take with you to events.  There are sections that cover everything to do with all aspects of your horse life, including:

  • Personal Details
  • Month by Month Planners
  • Things to Do
  • Budget
  • Clubs & Associations
  • Keeping in Touch (section for equine related phone numbers and contact details)
  • My Horse Records
  • Outside Horse Records
  • Show and Competition Results
  • Clinics, Lessons and Training
  • Saddlery, Fee and Stable Supplies
  • Horse Health and Maintenance
  • Vehicles and Floats
  • Year End Totals
  • Club & Show results

No more messy diaries!  With everything in the one book, you’ll simplify your horse life and for professionals, book-keeping and tax-time will become a breeze!

The Horsezone Team's Thoughts...

Haylie (Dressage/Hunting): The section on 'Stud and Breeding Record' is what I liked best about The Horsekeepers Handbook - this section is very comprehensive and enables studs and breeders to easily keep track of all details in regards to breeding and progeny.

Jo (Western Performance): I liked the size of book and how there is plenty of room to write accurate details for absolutely everything to do with your horse life, plus the Month by Month Planners are brilliant for scheduling upcoming events. I generally keep records on the computer, however, this publication really is a simple way to have it all at your fingertips, at one glance.

Georgia (Racing/Showjumping): The Saddlery, Feed and Stable Supplies Section is great for keeping track of all purchases relating to the horses.  I can see how often I'm buying particular items and what everything is costing - this helps with budgeting and working out where I could save money.

Jenny (Hacking/Dressage): I am always interested in recording results from shows and Dressage, so I like the Show and Competition Results Section, because I can not only record details of events, but there is also a useful section for recording entries and stabling expenses.
