Horsezone is proud to announce its sponsorship of the Western Australian Under 24 Women’s Team for the upcoming Barastoc Polocrosse Nationals, being held on 23-29 April at Morgan Park, Warwick, Queensland.
We are supplying the whole team with Horsezone jackets and caps and have donated $500 towards the purchase of team shirts.
The Barastoc Polocrosse Nationals will feature Australia’s elite Polocrosse players competing from around Australia.
After successfully staging the two Polocrosse World Cups in 2003 and 2007, the Warwick Club again takes up the challenge to stage Australia’s most prestigious Polocrosse event.
This means the Western Australian Teams and their horses will have to make the trek all the way from Western Australia, across to Warwick on the other side of the country!
The Under 24 Women's Team started their training on the weekend, with team member Hannah Watkin saying, "the weekend was jam packed! We started at 8.00am on Saturday morning and first up played amongst our team to work out our strongest combinations. At 11.30am we had an official state meeting where we were informed of new changes in rules and regulations. At 12 noon we had an inspirational talk from Emily Thinoet, a PhD candidate for WAIS, about mental preparation for the game. At 2.00pm we played against the Senior Women's team, although we didn't beat them we stayed strong and competitive, winning a couple of chukkas."
"Saturday night was good, sitting down with sponsors and having our quiz night, however, we lost miserably in the quiz night! I think we need to do a little more research before we attempt another. Sunday we played against the Under 21 Men and the Masters Mixed, where we won a few more chukkas."
"The weekend as a whole was a huge success and it was good to blow the cobwebs out of our systems. Hopefully at the next training we will all step up that extra 10%."
Most of the WA Teams - there are eight in total - are leaving around 8-10 April and will be travelling in groups or convoys of vehicles. Hannah will personally be travelling in her own truck with four horses.
Each player takes two horses and there are seven players in each of the eight WA teams competing, so that's a lot of horses travelling!
Stay tuned to Horsezone as we follow the progress of the Under 24 Women's Team, as they pursue their dream of attending the Polocrosse Nationals.
Hannah Watkin will continue to keep us up to date about training leading up to departure, the Team's adventures during the long journey across Australia and finally with details of the competition!
