The Irish Sport Horse Studbook had its most successful result to date at the
prestigious FEI World Breeding Jumping Championships for Young Horses, Lanaken, Belgium. For the first time ever the Studbook has won the World Breeding
Championship, with Clem McMahon (IRL) claiming victory in the Six Year Old Final on the Irish Sport Horse stallion 'NLS Coole Al Clover'.

The Six Year Old Championship was hugely competitive, with only 50 out of a total of248 starters qualifying for the Final on Sunday. Clem McMahon (IRL) and NLS Coole Al Clover (ISH), who is by Aldatus Z (OLD) out of Laural Lodge (AID), by Clover Hill (RID), won the Championship on a double clear round, over a second faster than his nearest rival.

Commenting on the victory Chef d’Equipe Comdt. John Ledingham said: “The Irish
horses put in magnificent performances at Lanaken this year. We’ve been knocking
on the door for a few years and came close last year with Capt. David O’Brien and
Drumiller Lough’s (ISH) Silver Medal in the Six Year Old Final. Clem McMahon's
performance in the Six Year Old Final was outstanding and to take first place from
such a huge and competitive field is a marvellous achievement. I would like to thank
all of the riders that travelled to Lanaken to represent the Irish Sport Horse Studbook. The riders really came together as a team and it was that teamwork that
resulted in a Gold Medal for Clem McMahon and NLS Coole Al Clover (ISH), a Bronze Medal for Greg Broderick and Ballypatrick Mystique (ISH) and a prize winning performance for James Hogg and Interpreter (ISH)."

Horse Sport Ireland's Director of Breeding Alison Corbally said: “The Irish Sport Horse Studbook have been waiting 18 years to win a Gold Medal at the fiercely competitive FEI World Breeding Jumping Championships for Young Horses at Lanaken.

The Irish Sport Horse Studbook was second last year (Drumiller Lough (ISH)), third in 1996 (Rincoola Abu (ISH)) and fourth in 2006 (Cavalier Andy (ISH)), but the long wait makes Clem McMahon’s tremendous win with Brian Kenny’s NLS Coole Al Clover (ISH) all the sweeter."

The breeder of NLS Coole Al Clover (ISH), Mr. Eamonn Kenny from Co. Laois, was
present in Lanaken to see the stallion he bred sail to victory and to receive a
breeder’s prize of €5,000.

Horse Sport Ireland's Director of Breeding Alison Corbally said: "Many
congratulations to the delighted breeder of NLS Coole Al Clover (ISH), Eamonn Kenny from Attanagh, Co. Laois, who together with his sons Brian and Alan were at Lanaken to witness and savour the success.”

Not only did Ireland win the Six Year Old Final but the Studbook also took third place in the Seven Year-Old Final, and eighth in the Five Year-Old Final at the FEI World Breeding Jumping Championships for Young Horses, Lanaken, Belgium. James Hogg (Irl) took eighth place in the Five Year-Old World Championships with the traditionally bred Irish Sport Horse gelding Interpreter (ISH). Interpreter (ISH), by Cruising (ISH) out of Dunahall Diamond (RID), by Diamond Rock (RID), was also the winner of the 5 Year Old 2010 Irish Sport Horse Studbook Showjumping League.

Greg Broderick (Irl) and the Kilkenny-bred mare Ballypatrick Mystique (ISH) rode
their way through a starting field of 186 to take third place in the Seven Year Old
Final.
