I look forward to supporting this series for many years to come”

The Tekna Young Rider Selection Series is a series of competitions across all States of Australia over standardised courses designed by one of Australia’s leading Course Designers – the 2011 courses were designed by FEI Level II designer Brad Longhurst.

Each competition consists of two rounds.

2011 saw a total of 158 participant combinations, a steady increase from the series’ inception  (2008 there were 110 participants, 2009 saw 125 participants and in 2010 132 riders took part).

There were 100 combinations who started in Competition 1 and 69 went into the second round, there were 94 who started in Competition 2 with 65 going into the second round.

Congratulations to Tasmania who joined the competition for the first time.

There were 32 combinations who completed four rounds and there were eight double clear rounds in the first competition, 12 double clear rounds in the second competition and only one rider who achieved the perfect score -the overall winner James Arkins (NSW). A clear second was Stephanie Tucker (WA) with one fault over the four rounds, the top five was rounded out by three riders with just four faults including Sarina Jurkiewicz (NSW), Olivia Hamood (Qld) and Lincoln Glasby (Qld).

The top five have automatically been selected into the National Young Rider Squad.

Congratulations and thanks to Brad Longhurst on designing another excellent set of plans for this competition.

About James Arkins

James purchased “Dreamtime Invader” for $2500, as his first horse, a green broken 5-year-old from Colleen Brook. Dreamtime Invader was bred by Kate Wallace in Victoria, by 'Dreamtime of Wondaree' out of a 'Brilliant Invader' mare. He is now 12 years-of-age and James has brought him through Juniors and Young riders and together they have just stepped-up to Grand Prix level with the vision to World Cup soon. They have had a very successful 2011, also being Champion Young rider at Sydney Royal Easter Show and with many other wins across the country. James currently runs a training and agistment centre, Calibre Equine, specialising in the purchase and sales of horse on behalf of clients. He would love to ride successfully at and international level with the ultimate goal to compete at an Olympic Games.
