The current Australian Show Jumping Champion, Jamie Kermond, has been declared the winner of the Australian League FEI World Cup Series for 2013 after finishing second overnight in the Sale World Cup.

Although there's still a round to go, Kermond's lead is so great that no rider can catch him.

The New South Wales rider has enjoyed a consistent World Cup season with wins at Gatton and Wodonga and second placings at the Be the Influence Equestrian Grand Final, Sydney Royal and Shepparton.

The 26 year old last won the overall series in 2011 and if results favour Billy Raymont and Tim Clarke at next weekend’s season ending Summer Classic at the Sydney International Equestrian Centre, it could very well be a case of history repeating itself. In 2011 Raymont was second in the overall standings ahead of Clarke who was third and both riders are in the mix for the minor placings in 2013.

The golden grand prize, which is awarded to the best performed horse of the season, will go down to the wire with Kermond’s Colthaga (owned by Jacqueline Cox), Tim Clarke’s Caltango (Owned by Clarke) and Billy Raymont’s Stardom (owned by Raymont) all in the mix for this award.

In last night’s Sale World Cup, Kermond and his grey mare Colthaga produced a solid first round but incurred four jumping penalties in the second to finish behind Raymont and Stardom who rode to victory with two clear rounds.

The FEI World Cup Jumping Final will be held in Lyon, France from 17-21 April 2014.
