Large crowds are expected at Werribee Park National Equestrian Centre as MIHT hosts Australia’s leading event riders and horses in picturesque Werribee Park precinct for the elite competition.

More than 10,000 equestrian enthusiasts from across Australia are anticipated to converge on the precinct – 20 kilometres from Melbourne – to enjoy the final Australian qualification opportunity for the 2014 World Equestrian Games (WEG) to be held in Normandy, France in August.  Horse and rider combinations with the 2016 Rio Olympic Games in their sights, will target the event to provide an Australian based qualification for potential national selection.

Event Director, Michael Hands said spectators attending this year’s Melbourne International Horse Trials would enjoy Olympic quality competition in a unique setting.

“The 2014 Melbourne International Horse Trials will see Australia’s best equestrian talent and our stars of the future compete at the purpose-built equestrian centre. The Melbourne International Horse Trials is unmatched as a showcase for Australia’s love of the horse and the event highlights regional Victoria at its winter best.

“The Werribee precinct is one of the crown jewels of Victoria. The unique precinct includes the award winning Open Range Zoo, Shadowfax Winery, the Werribee Mansion Hotel and Spa Centre, Victorian State Rose Garden all connected to the Werribee Park National Equestrian Centre,” Mr Hands said.
