The much anticipated first round of the Landmark Classic Campdraft started early this morning. The cattle donated from Ellerston Station near Scone were absolutely perfect for this premier event.

The Classic event is proudly sponsored by Landmark and Angus Barrett Saddlery and is for horses under five years of age that have been purchased through previous Landmark Classic Sales.
This incentive campdraft is the richest in Australia and is quickly building esteem to one of the most sought after trophies on the campdrafting calendar.

It wasn’t long for the first top score. Judge Phil Collins from Bombala scoring Glen Innes competitor Tom Williamson riding “Moore Park One Moore Rose” an 89. Tom led the Classic for a short while until Terry Hall also scored an 89 riding “Hazelwood Cormac.”

Yesterday afternoon was the first round of Australian Performance Horse Challenge sponsored by The Land Newspaper. Top scoring dry work was Jondaryan competitor Felicity Forsyth on “JR Elsola Rey” owned by Karl Burton. Equaling Felicity’s score was Cootamundra competitor Danny Fitzgerald riding Humducker, who is Lot 63 in this year’s Landmark Classic Sale to be offered on Friday 7 February.

Goondiwindi Challenge Judge, Rob Leach said that he was impressed by the first round of competition. “These types of Challenges are going to really attract people getting their horses trained for a Challenge going into the Landmark Classic Sale.”

This afternoon’s program is Round Two of the Martins Stock Haulage Open. Heath Eslick set the pace as first out with 90 points on Surprise and then Dungowan competitor Hugh Miles riding his stallion Millionnic Chic is also leading the second round at this stage with a 90 point ride.

Those who can’t make the event can log onto the Landmark Equine website and watch the Live Webcast on the Home Page www.landmark-classic.com.au
