With the first showing season for her imported cutting stallion, Ima Smooth Blue Cat (Smoothy to his mates), about to start - 2012 is shaping up to be a big year for Leanne Haywood, of Electrified Cutting Horses.

"Smoothy is still only two years old because he is bred to the USA breeding season and does not turn three until 19 April, " says Leanne, adding excitedly, "what this horse is doing at his age is nothing short of amazing. He is incredible! And has the most beautiful temperament to top him off."

As well as watching her gorgeous boy compete in the Open Cutting Futurity at Tamworth this year, with her valued trainer Gary LeBrocq (of River Meadows Training Centre) in the saddle,  Leanne is looking forward to standing Smoothy in the stallion barn at the Cutting Futurity (30 May to 10 June) and is keen for prospective breeders to meet her beautiful roan horse. 

It is a dream come true for Leanne, a cutting fan since 2006, to own such an outstanding horse and she is happy to share him with everyone!

 

How Leanne Met Smoothy

In December 2010 Leanne travelled to Fort Worth, Texas for the NCHA Futurity Western Bloodstock Sales, where she first saw and fell in love with the blue roan colt Ima Smooth Blue Cat. When this stunning horse was bought-back at the Invitational Sale for no less than $145,000, Leanne approached the owners and negotiated a price. At two years of age Smoothy was at a perfect age to start a promising cutting career in Australia, thus began the daunting task of importing a horse into Australia.

Eventually Smoothy arrived in Australia and took up residence at Electrified Cutting Horses in June 2011 and Leanne has since fallen even more in love with him!

Ima Smooth Blue Cat is the most impeccably bred cutting stallion to come to Australia with bloodlines full of Hall Of Fame horses. He is sired by Smooth As A Cat - the number one son of the world's number one leading cutting horse producing stallion, High Brow Cat. His dam is Autumn Boon - the number one daughter of the world's number one producing mare of all time - Royal Blue Boon.

Both parents are US NCHA Hall of Fame horses with combined earnings of over three quarters of a million dollars in the cutting pen. 

"With the purchase of Ima Smooth Blue Cat," says Leanne, "I realised that I had bought a sire with the conformation and breeding to secure the future of my cutting horse breeding operation. He has the right bloodlines to successfully produce future champion cutting horses in Australia. Smoothy is bred to cut and has such a natural ability to work a cow, proving that the right breeding really is everything."

"Smoothy's future is undecided at this time, he may go back to the US to compete and since he has had quite a bit of interest from there and his bloodlines are highly sought after, he will stand at stud in the US too."

More About Electrified Cutting Horses

The Electrified Cutting Horse Stud was established in 2006 in Western Australia. It all started when Leanne discovered the sport of Cutting and bought her first Quarter Horse gelding, Quixote Masquerade. 

Leanne became totally hooked on the sport and in 2007, realised that to compete in Cutting on a more serious level, she had to move her horse stud to the Eastern States. So she packed up the horses, dogs and husband and moved from WA to Kempsey, NSW!

Since then Leanne hasn't looked back and currently has several high quality cutting bred horses for sale including:

• Cow Smart Kitty (Sire: Kit Dual  Dam: Dennies First Spin) 2006, chestnut, 15hh mare. This mare will suit any cutter whether you are a seasoned rider or just starting out.
• Spinning Chick (Sire: Sonofaboomsmal {imp}  Dam: Spin N Hearts {Docs Spinifex}) 2007, chestnut, 15hh mare. A superb riding horse! Cutting trained and ready to go show, would suit someone just starting out in cutting or campdrafting as this mare is so light to ride. 
• Lakota Saigon Susie (Sire: TR Dual Rey  Dam: Docs Susie Que {Acres Destiny}) 2009, black, 15.1hh filly. A 2012 futurity prospect, this filly is working cattle very well.  She is smart, reads a cow beautifully and has a lot of natural ability, plus she is very easy to ride, a soft natured filly. 
• Electric Storm (Sire: Reyn Storm  Dam: Erin Opal Isle) 2008, brown, mature around 15hh gelding. Sunny is the perfect gentleman in every way, a dream horse who is safe and hassle free. Definitely a campdrafting prospect.

Leanne has just purchased a fully trained liver chestnut cutting mare from Texas - Diana Had Style (Royal Fletch x Stylish Play Lena).  This gorgeous girl will be released from quarantine on 3 June and Leanne is looking forward to her arrival. Diana Had Style will be Leanne's show horse and will also be bred to Smoothy.
