Lily Tootill Takes NZ Round of International Competition

Published on Sunday, February 27, 2011 in General

Lily Tootill will be ruing her four faults in the final round of the International Childrens' FEI Competition today (Sunday) at the Wellington Horowhenua Championships.

The youngster from Auckland aboard Millbrook won the class, ahead of 19 other combinations which saw them challenged to jump four full rounds over an extremely tough Irish-designed course during the two days of the show.

Tootill and Millbrook almost finished with a perfectly clean slate but for that last rail, of the last fence in the last round.

Children 12 to 14 years all over the globe jump exactly the same course, with results from all collated to find the top 20 in the world to compete against each other at the final.

And it was Tootill's former pony Magpie who finished second in the hands of new owner Sarah Fannin (Hawke's Bay) with eight faults from the four rounds. Tootill twice steered Magpie to take the crown in the category C Show Hunter of the Year class. Just nine of the 20 started completed all four rounds.

New Zealand is the first country in the world to hold its Childrens' FEI competition, so Tootill will face an anxious wait to see if she gets to ride offshore at the final in December – just where that will be is yet to be announced.
